My students never cease to amaze me! These sixth graders not only learned a song in three parts, but they learned a song in three parts that's in GREEK! They sixth grade is singing in Greek, English, AND German this semester! Wow! :)
These seventh graders make vocal warm ups fun by making up new dance moves to go along with their singing! They wanted me to share the video on the blog, so here it is! :)
The third marking period is underway, and we're still enjoying making music together! Here's a small clip of "Cups" by the H.B. Chamber Choir. Click below to download! It's a work in progress, but we love this slow, "Campfire" version!
The PTA awarded us with a grant for 17 new ukuleles! We had a blast unpacking them and tuning them for the first time in activity block last week. We're looking forward to starting to use them for the first time this week!
This weekend, we had about 20 H.B. males participate in the "Only Men Aloud Festival." They learned five songs in one day and held a wonderful concert at the end! Over 150 students from the state of Delaware participated! See below for some great pictures!
A couple of months ago, we also took about 25 girls to the women's festival counterpart, entitled the DE Women's Choral Festival! See below for pictures!
For the first half of this school year, we tried out separate blogs for each grade. We have now moved to this page, which will allow us to blog about the H.B. Choirs in one, singular spot. This way, you can keep up with the entire choral department, instead of just one grade level!
All of the previous posts will be copied over, so that you don't miss out on the first half of the year :)
Before the holidays, our Select 6th Grade Choir, Cantabile (advanced mixed 7th/8th grade choir), and Chamber Choir took the opportunity to carol around the school! We had a ton of fun. See below for some pictures and two short clips!
We had a great time in NYC seeing the production of "Wicked!" The performance did not disappoint. We also had a nice lunch at the Hard Rock Café. One element of the day that contained a lot of laughter was our "Broadway 101" workshop. Below you'll find a couple of pictures that capture some great moments from the day. The file below is the result of a "mini-musical" that one of the groups created in the workshop. Download in order to enjoy! :)
We've been having a blast in 8th grade choir! We're currently working on a large repertoire of songs (about 8!) for our winter concert. We've been working on singing in four parts, and one of our favorite pieces, "Give us Hope" features our four-part singing. Enjoy this clip of "Give us Hope!"
We also completed our first project which included making cover songs! The students really enjoyed this project. Enjoy photos of our performances below and a video clip of one group's performance!
We learned our school theme song (composed by a current 7th grade student) in the 6th grade classes today, and the students loved it so much that we learned the entirety of the song in ONE DAY! Here's a video clip of one of our sixth grade classes singing it!
We also had a great time with our first composition project last week. The students composed ABA compositions that needed to have 3 parts that occurred concurrently. They used found sounds, which even included their own shoes! They had a blast, and here are a couple of pictures of our small group performances!
We're having a great time in chamber choir so far. The girls are almost ready to share portions of their cover songs with the class, and I can't wait to hear them! They've been working on taking a song with which they already have familiarity and making it "their own." Among the instruments used within the groups will be violin, piano, ukulele, guitar, and of course, their voices! These girls are so creative, and have come up with some amazing harmonies. Below are some pictures from our days spent working on our covers.
